Eric Grove
At sixteen and a half years old, Eric, Percy’s grandson, and his close friend Dave ‘Cudge’ Curry behaved intolerantly at times, irrespective of rules or expectancy from the adults in their lives.
Conflict with his older brother decided Percy would take the helm in the boy’s guidance from an early age. Percy became the only source of discipline Eric respected, so when he left school, it was natural he would be employed at the pawnshop, where a genuine keenness developed. Although clear rules were strict, Eric was relatively free from authoritarian controls, and a bond grew almost hourly, with respect mutually shared to absolute trust. The transition from boy to man is a giddy journey at the best of times… Eric’s evolution created doubt, self-assessment and pain in equal quantities before the last base could be sighted. Those lessons were challenging; however, the rewards would be extraordinarily high and needed stoic tenacity.
